Reimbursement for innovative therapeutics is a key component for investors and companies in terms of evaluating returns and opportunities for investment. For example, the pricing practices that the Japanese government has instituted are leading to greater adoption of generics and [also questions about the use of proprietary named-therapies versus their generic equivalents]. This panel will discuss trends in reimbursement, an assessment of how investors are considering these changes and companies’ approaches to these issues.

The past 5 years has seen a remarkable wave of consolidation in the Japanese pharma industry. This re-ordering of the players in the industry means that while there are fewer players, those that remain have greater resources and ability to conduct business on a global scale. As a result of these changes, though, should emerging biotech firms adjust their partnering and alliance strategies? How should these companies approach the “new” Japanese industry?
